Marine Services & Sailing Charters

Captain Colby Pearson grew up living, working and playing along the coast of Maine. He learned to sail on Sunfishes and Cape Dory Typhoons as a child. After graduating from Cape Elizabeth High School, Colby attended The Landing School in Arundel, Maine where he learned boatbuilding and marine system trades, which launched his professional career in the marine industry. After leaving the Landing School, with certificates in Boatbuilding and a Master Marine Technician certification from ABYC he was immediately hired as a permanent crew member aboard a fine 70 foot Swan sailing yacht which he sailed across the Pacific as a deckhand and engineer. It was aboard this Swan where Colby truly honed his skills as a professional sailor and marine mechanic. After visiting Central America, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Tonga, New Zealand and Fiji all under sail, Colby accepted his first Skipper position aboard a 39 foot Cal. On his 23rd birthday, he experienced his first class 5 cyclone. The experience reminded him of the power of the sea and the respect she deserves. From Fiji Colby traveled to New Zealand to refit a steel tugboat in West Auckland, which led to a position as an engineers assistant at Whiting Marine Systems, the largest shipyard in New Zealand. It was in New Zealand that Colby attended the Mahurangi Technical Institute where he trained for and recieved his STW credentials and Yacht Master. From New Zealand Colby joined a 65 foot racing, cruising Catamaran which he crewed upwind 2200 miles to Tahiti. It was shortly after his time in Tahiti, when the waters of Maine started calling him home. Within a year of being home, Colby started his own independent marine contracting business and continued sailing as a crew/skipper delivering boats along the Eastern coast from Maine to Florica. One late summer day, he happened upon a salty wooden sailing ketch named Jenny Ives. After working on many fine and fancy yachts for other people, Jenny Ives brought back the joy, peace and soul of boat work.
Now based in Maine, Colby offers sailing trips, deliveries, and marine services.
